Washing machine problems: whirlpool?

my whirlpool washer will fill (like normal) but it won't agitaterinse, or spin. The timer keeps moving through the cycle, and will click, but nothing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Washing machine problems: whirlpool?
Check the switch under the lip.....the one that is pushed when the lid is closed. There is a plastic cap that rests on the switch that is depressed when the washer lid closes. The machine will fill and pump, but will not spin without that switch pushed. Mine fell off and got lost, so I have to stick something else in the void space so the switch is depressed.Washing machine problems: whirlpool?
The motor may be burned up
I don't think Whirlpool has a repairman like the Maytag guy... so you are screwed.
I assume you have a top load washer.

There is a catch button near the switch that activates the washer; it's under the top lid. It must make contact for the washer to agitate. It's a safety feature so the machine doesn't operate in the open position.

Depress the switch and make sure it moves and makes contact with the catch. It's easy to fix yourself. They do wear out.

If the switch and catch are okay, you could have a problem with the spin tube or a broken belt..
Broken belt?
Your belt is broken. A clutch drives the agitator or the pump ... since both stopped working at the same time I would check for broken belt. Pick one up at the appliance parts store or have a pro repair it.

I'm assuming you have a direct drive top load washer.

If it is true and If it does not spin and agitate but it does drain then the problem broken or worn out motor drive coupling. If you are familiar with simple hand tools it's not a big deal to replace it. The part will coast you less then $15.00 and the complete instructions how to do it you can find here: http://www.askgene.com/2007/02/07/whirlp鈥?/a>

If it does nothing but fills up then you have to perform a few more tests. Let me know and I'll be glad to help you.

Good luck.

Well if you say you can see the timing moving throughout the cycle, and you know the timer is working, check to see if the belt is still on the motor of the washer. and if it is, try moving the timer to like the delicate mode or something like that, just to make sure, and turn timer to the spin cycle and see what happens
