Putting to much washing powder, in washer can cause over flow when washer, when it spins out, as all that suds will not go down the drain and will back up. If it is old washer the tub seal may need replaced. Why is my whirlpool washing machine leaking water?
To know where the leak may be coming from, it would really help to know how old it is and the model number. A couple ideas though.

The pump has a small hole which will allow water to leak if the seal has been broken. It is like an early warning system similar to what car water pumps have.

There could be a wear in the outer tub which will allow water to leak out. This is improbable though because this is more common when the machine is going through a spin cycle and the water rises up on the sides due to centrifugal force.

If you can, get the model and approx how old it is and I would be happy to advise you further.
This makes you think its the pump if your machine circulates water thru a filter during the wash or rinse cycle.. It would also make it leak during the drain cycle. Another possibility is it could be leaking from a hose attached to the pump.
Try here, and find your model out so you can find the right answer

There are a lot of possible reasons. No way to list them all here.

Try looking underneath with a good flashlight when it's leaking. See if you can spot the source.
