Why won't cold water work in my Whirlpool washing machine? Only works on the rinse cycle.?

My Whirlpool washing machine model # LA6300XSW1 cold water won't work in the beginning of the wash, but only on rinse cycle. Warm still comes out hot too. If it's the timer, can I fix it myself? Is it difficult? Or expensive? It just worked the load before. Why did this happen? Please help. Mother of three. ThanxWhy won't cold water work in my Whirlpool washing machine? You have a solenoid valve that is energized to turn on the cold water. (There is another solenoid valve on the hot water that turns on the hot water as well by the way.)

The timer board, which controlls the wash cycle activates the washing machine's different processes including the cold water flow. To make the cold water flow, it energizes (applies voltage to) the cold water solenoid valve.

Since you get cold water on the rinse cycle, we can assume the cold water solenoid works properly and the wires to the solenoid are good and properly connected.

This then suggests that you are not getting voltage from the timer board to the cold water solenoid during fill cycle. This requires you to look at the wiring diagram and then at the actual wiring to see if there is another fault in wiring from timer to solenoid valve as there may be a second wiring from board to solenoid valve that is loose. If all is tight, you need to use a volt meter to validate presence or absence of voltage and why this may be the case.

Another thing to check is the switch that selects hot vs warm vs cold wash water. It may be that the fault is in this switch - and the switch may not apply the voltage to cold water solenoid due to switch malfunction. Again a volt meter is needed to validate this. Why won't cold water work in my Whirlpool washing machine? Only works on the rinse cycle.?
timer is probably bad
